Section 1: Free Demo versions of SuperSMITH software for probability plots and Crow-AMSAA plots are available for no-cost download. The demo software can be converted to working software by an electronic key for those who need immediate software upon receipt of credit card details for payment---so if you're in a hurry for software we can do it quickly. SuperSMITH performs all of the techniques covered in The New Weibull Handbook. This standard for performing lifetime data analysis (called Weibull analysis) is used by thousands of company's worldwide. A short tutorial on how to use the software is available for download as a PDF file.

Section 2: Site licenses or network server licenses pricing is the same as quantity prices using simultaneous user quantity (terminals) instead of copy quantity. One copy of disk(s) is provided. Purchaser’s LAN Manager is responsible for limiting usage to quantity of licenses purchased. Purchase quantity of 50 allows unlimited number of users. Use must be by purchaser's workers for purchaser's activities. Access may be local or remote. When purchasing Site or Network licenses, ask for an authorization letter for the LAN manger's authorization file. You can download a copy of the software license agreement.

Server/LAN Operation: Server/LAN use is completely acceptable given that the purchaser’s network administration limits access to one simultaneous user per purchased copy of the software. The software reads information from the command line (can be different for each user) to assist LAN operation. Add “-cXXX” to the command line to store user-specific configuration files into path XXX. Add “-tYYY” for temporary file storage location as path YYY. Include a space between entries. Please see the HELP file in the software for more command line examples (search for L.A.N in the help file).
Here is a worked-out, simple, example so that LAN managers can use as an installation template:
1. My local computer is identified as Dell3g.
On Dell3g, I made a local subdirectory C:\SMITHDAT .
Store data files from SuperSMITH Weibull and SuperSMITH Visual into this subdirectory.
Also store the SMITH.INI configuration files into this location.
2. My server is identified as Dellserver.
The SuperSMITH Weibull executable is located on the server where it was installed from a CD into D:\SMITHW
During installation on the server, three Visual BASIC V6 custom control files were installed with OCX extensions.
Look in the server Windows\System32 directory for these five files which must be copied and installed onto the local machines:
COMDLG32.OCX
MSFLXGRD.OCX
PICCLP32.OCX
SPIN32.OCX
THREED32.OCX ßIf you don’t install these five files into the Windows\System32 directory, the local machine will squawk!
The SuperSMITH Weibull executable is located at D:\SMITHW\SMITHW.EXE .
3. On the local computer, Dell3g, right click the mouse on the desktop to create a new short cut.
The target address in the shortcut box is \\Dellserver\D\SMITHW\SMITHW.EXE –cC:\SMITHDAT.
Name the shortcut icon SSW.
Please note the -c command following the EXE tells the program to store my Dell3g
configuration file in the subdirectory C:\SMITHDAT
4. Double click on the shortcut icon to wake up SuperSMITH Weibull for duty.
Verify the C:\SMITHDAT subdirectory contains configuration file SMITH.INI to remember local settings for the software.
5. Create a new icon on your desktop for SuperSMITH Visual.
The target address is \\Dellserver\D\SMITHW\SMITHV.EXE –cC:\SMITHDAT.
Name the shortcut icon SSV.
6. Set up the metering software on the server such as Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0
Limit the number of simultaneous users to the number of seats of software purchased. ßThis is the LAN manager’s responsibility.
7. Tell your reliability engineers to go solve some problems that save money using the software as a tool.

Special note for LAN mangers: You MUST install the software directly on the server. If you install the software on another computer and then copy the directories to the server, you will miss some of the DLL/OCX files written to the Windows system directory---then the software will not function—thus install the software directly onto the server to avoid a common error.

Section 4: PlayTIME for SuperSMITH is published by Dr. Robert B. Abernethy as a computer tutorial booklet with data diskette containing the tutorial data files. The tutorial provides keystroke details for solving problems using Fulton Findings software. The problems are derived from the Weibull Analysis classroom training programs with updates for illustrating software features. This tutorial will decrease the time required for mastering Weibull software

Section 5: SuperSMITH Weibull makes probability plots, reliability calculations, and much more. SuperSMITH Weibull (SSW) software for Windows performs all of the Weibull techniques in the NWH. SSW contains results of independent research with several methods developed by Dr. Abernethy in cooperation with Fulton Findings. Many of these techniques are not available elsewhere such as likelihood ratio confidence, simplified design (set) comparison, Kaplan-Meier simulation and solution, critical correlation coefficient, sudden-death WeiBayes, parameter as a function of engineering variable, etc. SuperSMITH Weibull for Windows uses Weibull, Normal, Log-normal equations or Gumbel distributions and replaces DOS programs such as: WeibullSMITH (previously the leading Weibull analysis software), BiWeibullSMITH, and MonteCarloSMITH.

SSW can now analyze bi-Weibull data sets. Individual SSW software is no longer available as stand alone software.

Section 6: SuperSMITH Visual makes Crow/Duane/AMSAA plots, optimum replacement plots, pdf plots, and much more. SuperSMITH Visual (SSV) software for Windows provides general scientific plotting. It includes Crow/AMSAA modeling for reliability growth analysis, probability density functions, cumulative distribution functions (regular scaling), likelihood contours, least-cost replacement intervals, failure forecasts, and histograms---all from SuperSMITH Weibull files. The likelihood contour comparison capability is not available elsewhere. The program also includes function plots, data transforms (global edit), and curve fitting as well as X-Y plots, bar charts, and pie graphs. Individual SSV software is no longer available as stand alone software.

Section 7: Quantity prices and site licenses (see Section 2 for site licenses monitoring software)--

1) Quantity prices are "adjusted unit prices" for quantity purchased.

2) Site license or network server pricing is the same as quantity prices using simultaneous user quantity (terminals) instead of copy quantity. One copy of disk(s) provided. Purchaser is responsible for limiting usage to quantity purchased. Purchase quantity of 50 allows unlimited number of users. Use must be by purchaser's workers for purchaser's activities. Access may be local or remote.

3) Maintenance for site license or network server includes upgrade to latest version at any time upon request while maintenance is funded. New version notification is on http://www.weibullnews.com. Maintenance cost is 30% of current purchase price payable at the beginning of each year funded.

4) Unauthorized copying of Fulton Findings or Bathtub Software is not allowed.

So, you've got three options for licenses: 1) Unlimited LAN use, 2) limited LAN use, or 3) multiple copies for individual PCs. Here are examples of the software costs for several cases:
Example 1): Unlimited LAN license for SuperSMITH software only at current US$560 list price (the price for 50 copies = US$562/each) for a total cost = US$28,100 plus shipping and handling.
Special note: copies of The New Weibull Handbook (US$98/copy) and PlayTIME home study tutorial for SuperSMITH (US$48/copy) are additional costs for unlimited LAN licenses—specify quantities required.

Example 2): 10 users server license for SuperSMITH software at current US$588 list price for software only (the price for 10 copies = US$588/each) for a total cost = US$5,880 plus shipping and handling.

Section 8: Want to run SuperSMITH software on your MAC operating system?

Microsoft’s Virtual PC for Mac was the subject of The Mossberg Report in the Wall Street Journal on December 2003 at which time the product was reported from Connectix although Microsoft acquired Connectix technology in February 2003.

Users are reporting good success with Parallels software running on MAC’s with Intel-based chips.

Others are using VMware Fusion running on a MAC with Intel-based chips?

Of course for all these virtual systems, you must also load a copy of Windows operating system (suggest you load Windows XP as it operates faster than Vista). Some report clipboard sharing issues for capturing and pasting screen grabs as the virtual clipboards are rather small.

Section 9: General Information: SuperSMITH programs are Windows based programs. They run on standard PCs or standard PCs attached to LANs with operating systems of:
Windows 2000+,
Windows 2000+ servers,
XP-Pro,
VISTA, and
Windows 7-32 and 64 bit platforms.
If you have doubts about the software performing on your system, download the demo version of the software, install it on your system and take it for a test drive.

Standard printers can be used such as Laserjet™ II and III and Laserjet 4, HGPL™, DeskJet™ 1200C using HGPL files, plotter drivers, and dot matrix printers use the GRAPHICS.COM utility from DOS 4.01+ . The programs are also mouse compatible and run on networks when the individual computer has at least the minimum main memory available.

Hardcopy outputs are available directly from the simple ASCII screen captures. Data can be input manually, imported from ASCII formats, or imported from columns in Excel *.CSV formats.
