PowerPoint Graphics Conversion For
WinSMITH Weibull And WinSMITH Visual Images

Make Board Of Directors quality presentations using graphics from WinSMITH Weibull (WSW) and WinSMITH Visual(WSV) plots. Here are the steps you need to take.

Save your files from WSW and WSV as HGL format.Do this by clicking on the print/hardcopy/softwcopy icon when youíre in WinSMITH software.Choose item B for the type of output you want the menu to produce.Select item Q (notice it has a clue that says you must include the HGL extension for these files) from the menu. Now you are ready to save a plot as HGL format.

Here is a result of the procedure for converting a WinSMITH Weibull or WinSMITH Visual graphic into a super-graphic using the HGL technique and PowerPoint, which is described below:

You can download this graphic as a PowerPoint file by clicking here.

If you are using PowerPoint 95, the software is equipped with a graphics converter for HGL from INSO called ImageStream. You can directly insert (the key word is a reminder to use the INSERT command in PowerPoint) the HGL graphic into PowerPoint 95 seamlessly.

Unfortunately, Microsoft did not include the insertion filter for PowerPoint 97 or PowerPoint 2000!Fortunately, now you can download a converter from the Microsoft website at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q196506 !!!This new filter allows seamless conversions without any problems.I prefer this new filter (posted to the Microsoft web on December 9, 1999) to the filter available from HiJaak Pro which is also described near the end of this page.

Here is an example to show you step-by-step details for use of the HGL converter for Office 97 and Office 2000óthis assumes youíve already loaded the converter into to your computer from the Microsoft website:
Step #1
       Start WSW.
Click on the "Dice" icon and make a probability plot.
Click on the printer icon. From the menu choose "B" and then select "Q" so we have every thing ready to generate an HGL file
Click on the green check mark to make convert the file and get ready to save it.
Save the file as C:\SMITHDAT\TEST.HGLŖIf you donít add the HGL extension, the conversion utility canít do itís assigned task!

Step 2:
       Wake up PowerPoint
Click on a blank sheet of paper
       Click on Insert
Click on From File and tell it the name of the file you want
Click on Insert which will put the HGL file into the PowerPoint page.
Pull on the corner tabs of the picture to scale it to the size/location of the graphic you want (this is important to get it to the correct size before you convert the graphic into a PowerPoint graphic).
Double click on the graphic and you will get the message:
"This is an imported picture, not a group.Do you want to convert it to a Microsoft Office drawing object"
Say yes for the conversion (this step may not be required for some versions of Windows 2000óproceed directly to step below).
Click on the Drawing icon and ungroup the graphic (this assumes you have use "View" and selected the Drawing tool bar with this icon available--you may need to "Ungroup" portions of the drawing which should still be highlighted on your PowerPoint page.

Step 3:
The double click on the graphic, which you used above, makes a conversion to a PowerPoint file
Now you an edit each line/font to make a presentation quality plot.
Drag a box around the finished graphic and click on the Drawing Icon to select "Group" so you can lock the graphic.

Step 4:
Use the super-graphic to go sell your project for cost reductions.

Please note, if you have PowerPoint 2000, and INSO ImageStream97 conversion tool loaded on your computer the ImageStream 97 will cause PowerPoint 2000 to crash!!You must unload ImageStream97 to keep the system from failing based on my personal grief and numerous phone calls to Microsoft techies!!

You can also purchase a stand alone conversion software for the HGL files called HiJaak Pro which is available from http://www.imsisoft.com/ and then look for HiJaak Pro. The HiJaak Pro software will convert HGL files into WMF files (Windows Metafiles), which can be inserted into PowerPoint 97 and PowerPoint 2000.You can convert the WMF file into a line-by-line PowerPoint file to achieve presentation quality graphics as shown above.

Here is an example to show you step-by-step details of the HiJaak Pro routine:

Save the file as C:\SMITHDAT\TEST.HGLŖIf you donít add the HGL extension, the conversion utility canít do itís assigned task!

Step 2:

Step 4:

Drag a box around the finished graphic and click on the Drawing Icon to select "Group" so you can lock the graphic.
